Organised by the Sports Authority of Thailand, the Thailand National Games are held every two years in the Asian country and is the nations’ biggest multi-sport event, featuring athletes from 77 provinces across 45 different events.

 

The 2018 event was the 46th edition of the games which date back to 1967 and saw athletes qualify through to the final championship from five regional zones.

 

This year, the games were held in Chiang Rai, the northern-most province of the country and featured both indoor and beach handball for men and women.

 

A total of 48 teams were involved in handball with 12 provinces in each tournament – 10 from the qualification zones, plus the host and defending champions.

 

In the indoor tournaments Sisaket province beat Samut Prakan province 30:29 in the final to take gold, while Bangkok defeated Sisaket 55:38 in the men’s first-place match.

 

On the sand, Khon Kaen province beat Sisaket 2:0 (26:23, 24:16) in the women’s competition final and Samut Prakan overcame Suphan Buri 2:0 (20:19, 19:18) in the men’s final.
